Case study

RTscan’s bar code scanner is used for the medical self-service terminal in the hospitals

                                                  —— A case from Europe

Case background

The hospitals will face great challenges if a large number of patients flow into the existing limited space. These challenges are usually reflected in the long queue time of registration, waiting for treatment, taking reports, and the lack of medical guidance. Therefore, it is urgent for hospitals to improve their image and efficiency by realizing medical informatization and self-service.

Even though the medical hardware and level have been improved, the number of staff is still insufficient and unreasonable. The hospitals have to need a lot of staff to guide patients in registration, picking up drugs, paying fees, and giving out reports. Hospitals have to hold this part of labor cost continuously. Meanwhile, conflicts between patients and staff will often exist in such a process.

Additional workload for staff

When taking the reports, patients usually cause additional workload to the staff even though they are already worked overlord, which delays their time and makes them unable to focus on important and urgent tasks.

Hard to manage

Traditional ways of seeing a doctor can not better track and manage the treatment status, results. and also can not meet potential treatment requirements of patients. It’s not good for doctors to provide better treatment solutions for patients.

The benefits after investing in the self-service terminal for hospitals

The medical self-service terminal allows patients to register, pay bills, and get report forms by themselves with a specific QR code, which reduces patients’ queue time and avoids the risk of cross-infection among patients to improve the hospitals environment to a certain extent.

Simplify the medical treatment process, improve satisfaction  and work efficiency of front desk staff by 15-20%. Before seeing a doctor, the patient reserves a voucher and takes it to the corresponding doctor. Then go to the self-service terminal to identify the QR code to pay the bill or get the report. This reduces a lot of paperwork for doctors and saves a lot of time for consultation.

Patients only need to scan their own QR code to get their own reports accurately, conveniently, and quickly and avoid human error and privacy leakage. It also enables hospitals to accurately and quickly manage and track patients’ health information and potential needs.

Self-service terminals can help hospitals save labor costs. Since the self-service terminal can replace employees, there are no more human supervision needed any more. Patients can follow the instructions to proceed the medical treatment by themselves. Therefore, the hospital does not have to invest in additional office equipment such as computers and telephones for their staff.
